Social Media had an outpour in their disdain for the state of the Durban beach. A social media site filmed their daughter taking a jog on the Durban beach earlier today. Shortly after she posted the video, social media users who are not in Durban were horrified at the state of the beach. The pollution of the beach has never been a new topic, but today the video posted has evoked alot of public outcry in disgust.
Ethekwini Municipality is under fire for not being serious about tourism. The beach looks like a dumping site which has been neglected for years. The video doesn't specify which Beach it is exactly. The video where people were doing the 5km Good Friday run showed so much litter on the beach with many runners complaining that it is not safe for them or their children to finish the run.
Another video clip from a completely different beach in Durban. This clip captured the current state of the Durban Beach Front which was once famed as a tourist destination is now overflowing with sewage flowing from a manhole across the pavement blocking off all access to the pier. This has bad tidings for the tourism industry as the easter weekend is very profitable and such conditions will not encourage people to come visit Durban.
Users are blaming Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda for his negligence. People have now started comparing Durban to Liberia in the contest of which country has the worst beach in Africa. Liberia beaches are dumping grounds for sewage, human excrement and all manner of pollution. Durban seems to be joining that rank with the public out cry of not prioritizing the country’s true needs. The management of Durban reeks of gross incompetence.
